CASEY residents and mini-bike enthusiasts are set to witness a world-class motor sport event with more than 2000 people expected to flock to Tooradin next month.
The Yamaha Australian Open of Mini Super Cross is the realisation of a dream for Pakenham plumber and motorbike fanatic Mick Sinclair, who is staging the inaugural event with close friend Adam Bailey.
Mr Sinclair, who has worked as a stage manager for the Crusty Demons, the world’s leading freestyle motorcross riders, said the 17 December event would provide some “awesome entertainment” for locals and he was hoping for a big crowd.
The 23-year-old said the event had already attracted some big names in racing including his brother Cameron Sinclair, a popular Crusty Demons’ rider.
“More than 200 riders from all around Australia will be racing including Cameron (Sinclair), Blake ‘Bilko’ Williams and Matt Schubring from the Crusty Demons,” he said.
‘We will really have the best Australian freestyle riders and it really will be world class,” he said.
The friends formed their own promotional company Southside Promotions in July this year and since then have been working hard to organise the night-time event.
They are now in the process of seeking a permit from Casey Council to hold the event at Rutter Park in Tooradin.
Mr Sinclair and Mr Bailey have been friends since they were 10 when they met at a motorcross event.
Both said they hoped to take the mini super cross all around Australia next year and were even raffling off a Yamaha TTR 50, donated by their major sponsor.
Mr Sinclair said the event would include trade displays as well as the mini-bike races.
“Mini-bike racing is just going off at the moment and has really become popular over the last 12 months.
“This event will really be a good event for the family and everyone who loves mini bikes and motorcross.
“Every State has mini-bike events but this will be the first in Victoria,” he said.
Tickets are available at the gate and cost $15 for adults, $10 for children under 12, and $40 for families of four.
The event starts at 5pm.
