POLICE believe a motorist may be able to help with their investigation into a $1.2 million fire at a Hallam business last month that they say was deliberately lit.
A burgundy Holden Commodore Berlina was captured on security footage at the rear of the Hallam South Road building shortly before the blaze started.
Police want to speak to the driver of the late model vehicle, which had a sunroof, or anyone else who may have seen the car in the area around the time of the fire.
“It appears that unknown offenders have entered the premises and distributed accelerant throughout the premises. The offenders are believed to have then lit the fire and left via the rear of the building,” Narre Warren Detective Senior Constable Kevin Cooper said.
Det Sen Const Cooper also appealed for anyone who may have any information about the fire to contact police.
The News spoke to business owner Sandi Wear only days after the blaze ripped through her store. Ms Wear expressed her despair after the showroom full of prams, baby clothes, furniture and cots were turned into ash and rubble.
Ms Wear said, at the time, that it was too early to say if the family-owned business would ever be rebuilt.
“I don’t know. It is all just so much at the moment,” she said.
Anyone with any information about the fire is asked to contact Narre Warren Police on 9705 3114 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
