Narre Warren father of one Glenn Salt has pleaded for the return of stolen videos that contain precious footage of his five-year-old son.By Rebecca Fraser
THIEVES who stole videos of a Narre Warren couple’s only child have been urged to return the irreplaceable footage.
June and Glenn Salt were left devastated on Monday when they discovered their Shrives Road home had been broken into and 10 video tapes of their five-year-old son Jack were missing.
Ms Salt said the tapes spanned back five years and included recent footage of Jack’s first day of school as well as his kindergarten Christmas pageant last year.
“The tapes had the lot. We record everything and always use it,” she said.
“We have lost Christmases, Easter, birthdays, holidays, three-year-old playgroup, times at the beach – everything.”
The couple has not told Jack about the missing tapes and Ms Salt said if her son knew about the break-in he would be absolutely devastated.
Other items stolen included Jack’s Xbox, a video camera and mobile phone as well as a bag containing the tapes.
“We told Jack his X-box was broken and it was being fixed,” she said.
“He got it for Christmas and we will just buy him a new one.
“Jack would be absolutely horrified if he knew about the videos. He is a sensitive kid and loves the camera.
“He even watches my wedding video,” Ms Salt said.
The Salts have offered a reward for the return of the videos and have printed posters and hung them in the Narre Warren area in the hope someone will come forward.
“I was in shock until I went to bed last night (Monday),” Ms Salt said.
“I came home and noticed that the door was open and then I went in and saw all the mess and everything pulled out of the cupboards.
“When I saw that the tapes were gone I just cried and cried and I walked the streets hoping someone had dumped them.
“I am just worried that someone won’t realise the importance of the tapes and will throw them out.
“We have insurance for everything else, but these videos cannot be replaced,” she said.
The family believes the robbery took place between 9.30am and noon, and two phone calls were made at 10.30am and 11.30am on Ms Salt’s stolen mobile to the international Vodafone directory.
The matter has been reported to Narre Warren police and is under investigation.
The couple has urged anyone that has seen the tapes to call Glenn on 0404 076 099 and have said no questions will be asked.
