SONY has recently released an exciting new portable gaming console entitled Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) which is destined to revolutionise the way we use portable gaming systems.
Not only is the PSP capable of playing the hottest new games at high resolutions with full colour and sound quality like never before, it can also be used as a portable entertainment device with full support for video, music and even image files.
Many users of the Sony PSP have had their portable gaming consoles modified to enable them to run home grown or pirated software but it has become apparent that people wishing to do so should be very cautious as to what software they choose to install on their PSP.
Wellknown security vendor Symantec has recently discovered a Trojan horse circulating the internet and labelled it Trojan.PSPBrick.
This new virus disguises itself as an enhancement to the standard Sony PSP, claiming to update the operating system software to enable it to run home grown and pirated games and other software.
However, upon launching the supposed enhancement on your Sony PSP, the Trojan then proceeds to delete crucial system files stored on the console, leaving the PSP unable to start or function in any way.
If you own a Sony PSP, you should definitely be aware that running home brew or pirated software on your PSP is strictly prohibited under any circumstances and doing so will in fact void the PSP’s warranty.
People who have already infected their PSPs with the PSPBrick Trojan or any other Trojan will not be covered by warranty and will likely have to either return their gaming console to manufacturers to be returned to factory condition or purchase a new PSP.
