New pool makes a splash

By Rebecca Fraser
THE renovated Doveton Pool in the Park is open for summer with families invited to celebrate at the Family Open Day and Start of Season Breakfast on Saturday, 3 December.
“As the name suggests, this facility is very much a pool in a park,” City of Casey Arts and Leisure manager Robyn Bowen said.
“The familyfriendly pools and waterslides are surrounded by extensive manicured lawns featuring stunning shade trees and new landscaping.
“The Doveton Pool in the Park is a wonderful way for families to get active and enjoy being outdoors together,” Ms Bowen said.
The openair centre includes a heated 50metre pool, a large learners’ pool, toddlers’ pool, giant and intermediate waterslides, barbecue facilities, shade structures and extensive lawn areas.
There is also a community room for hire.
Council is undertaking a redevelopment program at the centre and works completed include:
•Significant improvements to ramp access to the facility;
• Additional disabled parking;
•Refurbished entrance, reception, foyer and change facilities;
•Pool hoist access to 50m pool; and
•Refurbishment of water slides and towers.
This month, the centre is open on weekends from 10am to 6pm. The centre will also open on weekdays from 3.30pm to 6.30pm if the temperature exceeds 30C degrees.
Extended opening hours will start on 1 December and the pool in the Park will stay open until the end of the March school holidays. The Family Open Day and Start of Season Breakfast is the start of a range of events at centre.
Entry to the centre will be free from 10am until noon and will include a free breakfast, free giant waterslide rides and door prizes. Other events this summer include Funworks Family Fun Days in December and February, an endofyear Pool Party and Battle of the Bands on 21 December, Dive in Movie in January and Jazz by the Pool in March.
