DOVETON residents can now garden to their hearts’ content.
Last Thursday the Doveton Neighbourhood Learning Centre officially opened a community tool library and residents can now borrow tools and equipment such as lawnmowers, spades and picks for a small fee.
Project coordinator Debbie Taylor said the initiative came about after residents said they needed access to cheap tools to help maintain their homes.
“We wanted to offer a service where the community could come in and hire tools for a small fee.
“The idea came about from community response and feedback from the local community, who said this was something they needed,” she said.
Ms Taylor said the tool library would help bring even more pride into the Doveton community.
“Many people in the area have a lot of pride in their homes and gardens but they may not be able to afford tools so we can loan them out to them.
“Some people can’t afford to spend $500 on a lawnmower but they can come in and pay $15 a day and borrow one,” she said.

The tool library is open from 9am to 3pm Monday to Friday at the Doveton Neighbourhood Learning Centre in Oak Avenue, Doveton. For further details phone 9791 1449.
