EUMEMMERRING College Gleneagles Campus student Neil Peake has been selected in the Victorian Secondary Schools Sports Association (VSSSA) cricket team to represent Victoria.
The 15-year-old is ready to take his cricketing career to the next level after catching the eye of Victorian selectors at recent trials and will travel to Perth next month to compete in the school sports event.
Peake plays club cricket for Endeavour Hills Cricket Club and when not batting or keeping for the under-15 side, is donning the whites for the turf-one team.
After gaining selection in the first squad of 24, Peake was thrilled to make the final cut of 13 and become a member of the VSSSA representative cricket team.
“It’s great and I’m very excited to be representing Victoria, I hope I do really well and we win the Australian title,” Peake said.
Peake said the talent in the Victorian side was high and he looked forward to travelling to Perth to compete in the one-day tournament.
“The games are 50 overs a side, nearly all the states and territories are sending teams,” he said.
Peake said his experience in the Endeavour Hills turf-one side might just come in handy on game day.
“It’s been a great experience, I’m in the under-15s and playing in turf one at the same time,” he said.
On his cricketing future, Peake said he looked forward to developing into a senior player at Endeavour Hills.
“In the next few years I’d like to keep going up the ranks and playing more turf cricket, that’s my goal,” he said.
The VSSSA team will take on the rest of Australia when the tournament begins on 2 April.
