Mixed at Hampton Park

LAST week Hampton Park got close, but Burden Park won overall by just four shots. Les Unwin, Allan Unwin, David Hendrie and skip Geoff Ladner got to a 10-shot lead early and hung on to it for the rest of the game. Leading by 15 shots at one stage, Ray Wood, Andrew Brandolin, Keith Damon and skip Robert Naismith held off a late run by the opposition to win by eight shots.
Charles Hose, Keith McCarthy, Allan March and skip Lance Davis were there early in the game but collapsed in the second half, going down by 16 shots. After 15 ends, John Scothorne, Bill Tannahill, Fred McBrian and skip Neville Hendrie were 16 shots behind, but the team fought back to go down by only six.
The Division 7 side, playing at home, did much better with a 52-shot win over Cranbourne.
Drew Oliver, Heather Naismith, David Oliver and skip Bill Webb lost only eight ends in their 31-shot win. A slump in the second half had Rob Woff, Gail Wilcock, Bob Nicol and skip Werner Melzer working hard to limit their opponents to a five-shot win. A big effort was put in by Sheila Scothorne, Geri Graafsma, Ellen Smith and skip Chris Hendrie to lead all day for a 22-shot win. Merv Gunson, Gerry Cox, Eddie Graafsma and skip Ray Leggett hung on to their lead all day to win by four shots.
The RVBA club men’s singles final between Graham Slight and Neville Hendrie will be held on Sunday at 10am.
