Men face assault charges

By Rebecca Fraser
A 24-YEAR-OLD man faces further surgery after his face was cut during an incident in Narre Warren early on Sunday morning.
The incident occurred at 1.30am behind the Furnace nightclub and near a ramp leading to the upper level car park at Fountain Gate Shopping Centre.
Police said the man, who did not attend the nightclub, was approached by a number of males who asked for a cigarette but he said he only had a couple left, and did not give them any.
Police said there was then an altercation and the man then ran away.
Senior Detective Gary Kear of Narre Warren CIU said the man sustained substantial lacerations to the cheek area with a sharp instrument, possibly a knife.
The man sought treatment at the Dandenong Hospital and was later transferred to the Casey Hospital in Berwick.
Sen Det Kear said it was likely that the man would need further surgery.
Following the incident two men were arrested at the nearby McDonald’s car park in Narre Warren at 2.25am after resisting police.
An 18-year-old from Hallam and another 20-year-old male were taken and interviewed and have now been released with charges pending.
Police said the men would be charged on summons in relation to the assault of the 24-year-old male, and the assault of police officers when they struggled upon arrest.
Sen Det Kear said about another 10 people were present at the time of the arrests and he called on any witnesses to the assault to come forward.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Narre Warren CIU on 9705 3111 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
