A PROBLEM intersection in Devon Meadows will be upgraded to help improve visibility for motorists and cur the number of serious accidents.
A left-turn slowing lane and a traffic island are planned for the intersection of Baxter-Tooradin Road and Fisheries Road.
The $906,000 upgrade was announced by Hastings MP Rosy Buchanan last week.
“There have been seven intersection casualty crashes at this location over the past five years, including three serious injuries,” Ms Buchanan said.
“Road improvements like these have a proven record in reducing the number of accidents and severity of crashes.”
Funding for the Devon Meadows intersection came from the State Government’s $240 million Arrive Alive! Safer Roads program.
The initiative identifies intersections where there is risk of a crash and introduces safety measures to protect motorists, helping to save lives and reduce injuries.
The strategy aims to tackle the road toll and help achieve a 20 per cent reduction in fatalities and serious injury crashes on Victoria’s roads between 2002 and 2007.
