Man jailed for petrol drive-offs

A NARRE Warren North man was sentenced to one month in jail after being found guilty last week of three petrol drive-off offences.
The 21-year-old appeared before the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court last Thursday to face three counts of petrol theft.
The crimes, which occurred in the Endeavour Hills area in January, February and May of 2006, involved a total of $200 of petrol being stolen.
Endeavour Hills Senior Sergeant Russell Patten said the tough sentence showed a willingness by the courts to treat petrol drive offs as serious crimes.
“This is a stark warning to people that these crimes are being treated seriously. Anyone considering stealing petrol should think twice,” Sen Sgt Patten said.
“Anyone who steals petrol is putting themselves in jeopardy of a term of imprisonment,” he said.
