Lyfield leads Cranny win

CRANBOURNE bowlers were shown the way by the Ron Lyfield skipped rink, to finish on top of Blackburn by eight shots overall in Metro pennant bowls on Saturday.
Cranbourne won three rinks to control the match throughout, but Lyfield’s inspiring bowling and clear directions lifted his teammates to a 10-shot win.
Skip Alan Mickle’s rink had another good win after a biased start from lead Ray Boskell.
Scores: Cranbourne 80 d Blackburn 72. R. Lyfield 24-14, L. Quigg 19-14, A. Mickle 19-16, B. Gay 18-28.
Cranbourne (2) was in another nail-biting finish, but lost this one against Dandenong RSL/Rec by five shots.
Cranbourne won two rinks, with Wal Ballard’s the star, winning by 10 shots.
Scores: Cranbourne 77 lost to Dandenong RSL/Rec 82. W. Ballard 24-14, R. Travica 20-16, S. Burnett 15-23, G. Imeson 18-29.
Cranbourne (3) was in good touch to win well at Hampton Park by 13 shots.
Cranbourne won three rinks to take 16 points from the match and is looking a good prospect to play finals. Big winners were the rink of Dick St Ruth with a 14-shot margin.
Scores: Cranbourne 100 d Hampton park 87. R. St Ruth 33-19, T. Bonney 24-19, K. McLeod 29-18, M. Eames 14-31.
Cranbourne (4) avenged a 27-shot defeat by Dandenong City in the first round, when it finished well at home to win by 16 shots. Cranbourne won two rinks, with Allan Dennis’s rink in fine touch to win by 19 shots.
Scores: Cranbourne 104 d Dandenong City 88. A. Dennis 39-20, J. MacInnes 20-16, L. Stephens 21-23, K. Lawler 24-29.
Cranbourne (5) held its top position on the ladder with a 32-shot win over Glen Waverley.
Cranbourne won two rinks and was narrowly beaten on the other two rinks. The stars were the rink of Keith Davey that had a big win by 39 shots to win the weekly club award.
Scores: Cranbourne 111 d Glen Waverley 79. K. Davey 48-9, W. Plumbe 18-17, R. Sorensen 24-25, F. Hopper 21-28.
Cranbourne (6) had a good match with top side Keysborough, but was defeated overall by 27 shots.
Cranbourne was very competitive on three rinks with only three shots the difference overall, but was outbowled on the fourth rink.
Scores: Cranbourne 75 lost to Keysborough 102. J. McGeagh 23-22, N. Mahon 21-22, J. Kotre 20-22, J. Potts 12-36.
LADIES PENNANT
Cranbourne (1) was involved in a tight match against Dandenong RSL/Rec before taking the game by two shots overall in another good performance.
Shirley Venville’s rink continues to impress and this week had a six-shot margin in its rink. Vhronda Bonney’s rink is also showing consistency with a six-shot win.
Scores; Cranbourne 88 d Dandenong RSL/Rec 86. S. Venville 21-15, V. Bonney 27-21, L. Hine 19-27, T. Lennon 21-23.
Cranbourne (2) played excellent, consistent bowls to show the way against Berwick to win overall by 23 shots. Cranbourne won three rinks, but all four contributed to the win.
Scores: Cranbourne 91 d Berwick 68. I. Smith 24-14, B. Taylor 24-16, E. Woodman 23-16, B. Helle 20-22.
Cranbourne (3) was outbowled by a strong Keysborough side and was never in contention, losing both rinks.
Scores: Cranbourne 27 lost to Keysborough 51.
LADIES CLUB CHAMPION
The ladies club champion for this season is Kath Dudink.
She won her first club championship with a 25-12 win over Dot Harris in the final.
The game was played in ideal conditions on a fast green and both ladies settled down quickly to produce some excellent shotplay. The scores were close early in the match, but Kath drew away to establish a big lead.
She continued to score well and Dot was unable to match her and the result was a 25-12 win.
Kath will now go on and play in the champion of champion competition at Narre Warren on 5 December.
MEN’S CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
Quarter final results of the club championship sees six players left.
In the two quarter-finals played the results were – Lyn Quigg defeated Glen Imeson and Ian Barrenger defeated Ken Fuller.
Two quarter-finals remain to be played between Stan Burnett v Peter DeLisle and Brian Gay v Hans Worsteling.
