STUDENTS at Eumemmerring Secondary College have a strong vision for the future and have set their sights on 2020.
Building and Construction students at the Hallam campus are preparing to enter the Target 2020: Future Car Competition as organised by the Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce (VACC).
Senior Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) teacher Tom Hellinan said the competition would be incorporated in their personal development school curriculum.
Students can opt to enter in any one of three categories.
They can either choose to build a model car, produce a design, or write an essay describing the world of personal transport in 2020.
Mr Hellinan said students would enter the first two categories and he believed the competition greatly suited the interests of his students and would arouse their imagination.
This will be the VCAL classes second major project for the year. The first was to design and produce a school barbecue.
Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan has also welcomed the initiative and said the competition encouraged students to think expansively beyond the boundaries and limitations of today’s cars by allowing them to explore their ideas for the future of automobile design.
The competition is open to students at two entry levels: Secondary for years 9-12 and Tertiary (TAFE or university).
Entry forms can be obtained by emailing marketing@vacc.com.au or downloaded at www.vacc.com.au. Entries can be submitted from either individual students or groups. Winning entries from each category will be rewarded with a cash prize of $3000. The closing date for entries is 15 December.
