EXCITEMENT is building in Doveton and Eumemmerring as local residents get set for the first annual Doveton Show Day to be held at Myuna Farm.
Organised by the events committee for Doveton and Eumemmerring Neighbourhood Renewal, the day is set to showcase the hidden talents of local residents.
Terri Fallows, community development coordinator with Neighbourhood Renewal said they were expecting about 1000 people on show day, to be held on Sunday, 25 September.
Ms Fallows said the idea for the show came about after members of the community expressed concern about the lack of low cost events and activities in the Doveton area.
She said for many families a trip to a show was often out of reach, as people could not afford to pay entrance fees and transport costs as well as paying for children’s rides and showbags.
“The Melbourne show is coming up but it is expensive for everyone. Myuna Farm is an amazing facility and it is great that we can utilise the farm for such a great event and give the local community the ‘show’ experience.
“We are very happy to be putting together an event that is accessible and affordable for everyone,” she said.
Ms Fallows said the show would also showcase and publicise the different skills and talents of local residents and highlight the positive things Doveton and Eumemmerring had to offer.
“There is an amazing amount of talent here that has been forgotten and with this event these skills be put on show and recognised,” she said. “There is so much excitement buzzing around about the day and we have not even letter dropped yet. We are really looking forward to it.”
Entry to the show is free and the day will feature displays, events, demonstrations and a host of other exciting activities including low cost rides for children, teenagers and adults.
There will also be train rides, pony rides, milking demonstrations, showbags, art and craft stalls, animals, food stalls, live music and dances, indigenous painting workshops, iridology workshops and art and craft and cake decorating competitions.
Ms Fallows said the events committee were currently recruiting volunteers for the day and urged anyone interested to call Neighbourhood Renewal on 9791 4760.
The fun begins at 11am and finishes at 4pm at Myuna Farm, Kidds Road, Doveton.
The Doveton and Eumemmerring Neigbourhood Renewal initiative is a partnership initiative led by the Department of Human Services and City of Casey.
