Little athletes take home trophies

NARRE Warren Little Athletics Club held its annual general meeting and trophy presentation for the 2006-007 track and field season in its clubrooms at Max Pawsey Reserve, Narre Warren on Saturday, 21 April.
Both past and present athletes and parents came to celebrate the end of another busy season and to applaud their successes.
Former club members, Jeffrey and Michael Riseley presented awards and spoke to club members about their recent athletic achievements at senior level with Knox Athletics Club.
Jeffrey recently competed at Olympic Park in the Telstra A Series in the 800 metres that earned him the number-one Australian ranking.
Both Jeffrey and Michael encouraged the children to have fun and enjoy their ‘little aths’ years.
Life member Mrs Margaret Lowe presented the Don Lowe Memorial Junior Clubperson Award to under-15 girl Ashleigh Cox.
Greg Farley presented the Hendy Family Adult Clubperson Award to Mr Steve Fenton.
Club president Mr Fenton then awarded Mr Farley a special appreciation plaque for his continued support and assistance to the club.
Athletes who represented the club at state level were awarded a special medal by past president and life member, Ms Sue Munday.
Many of the athletes were given their six-year service awards, including Jacob Huisman, Brittany Fenton, Stefanie Fenton, Maddison Fenton, Amy Burren, Sarah Burren, Annalyce Dunn, Phoebe Dunn, Melina McCallum-O’Dea and Brianna Samuhel.
Inter Aths Phoebe Dunn, Brittany Fenton, Brianna Samuhel and Danielle De Carlo were awarded for their participation during the season.
Best first-year boy and girl certificates were presented to under-seven girl Claudia Heeger and under-eight boy Denilson Noronha.
First place age group winners were Ashleigh Cox, Melissa Kirby, Stefanie Fenton, Rhea Ferrier, Ashley Albert, Maddison Fenton, Katelyn Cox, Ebony Platten, Bridget Dilorenzo, Briana Napoleon, Jacob, Huisman, Nicholas Nelson, Thomas Di Carlo, Harvey Little, Ethan Cornford, Chris Fenton, James Burren and Jake Johansson.
Second place age-group winners were Rochelle Samuhel, Amy Burren, Tiarnii Savage, Cassie Knowles, Sarah Burren, Emily Di Carlo, Susanne Bourchier, Emily Dilorenzo, Tia Huisman, Brock Huisman, Jayden Denmead, Kane Denmead, Luke Coad, Denilson Noronha, James Dilorenzo and Matthew Craig.
Personal best encouragement award winners were Holley Webber, Sarah Ferrante, Shelby Webber, Megan Fisher, Taleesha Savage, Hayley Coad, Tara Xuereb, Tahlia Vella, Brandon Knowles, Marlee Noronha, Rhys Huisman and James Veitch.
Participation award recipients were Annalyce Dunn, Kate Brown, Melina McCallum-O’Dea, Keneisha Noronha, Shari Vella, Stephanie Clayton, Claudia Heeger, Emma Bloomfield, Terry Jepson, Kurt Napoleon, Dylan Alexander-Griffiths, Ethan Dunn and Ryan Coad.
Fenton thanked the 2006-07 committee for its assistance and support and welcomed the newly elected committee and asked club members for their help and support in the coming year.
The cross country season will start at 9am on Saturday, 28 April at the Dandenong Little Athletics Centre and all are invited to come and join in the fun.
All athletes currently registered for track and field are eligible to compete with their parents encouraged to join in, too.
Anyone interested in trying out for cross country running are welcome to trial free of charge for the first two weeks.
A barbecue will be in operation for the morning and all club members are encouraged to come and support this much-needed fundraising event.
