A BERWICK church is set to reach out to the community with a campaign aimed at encouraging random acts of kindness.
The ’40 Days of Community’ campaign at The Winepress Church is all about helping the community, says Pastor Al Foster.
The 500 volunteers involved, aged from children to the elderly, will be hitting the streets of Casey and working alongside local agencies to tackle some of the ongoing issues in the community.
“We’ll be doing both small and large projects,” Pastor Foster said.
“Some could be as simple as mowing the lawn at a neighbour’s house or making morning tea for a group of primary school teachers. It’s about giving back to the community, no strings attached.”
Pastor Foster, who has been with the church for 12 months, said there was a need for the initiative in the Casey community.
“It’s not the big things but the little things that make a difference,” he said.
“We are hoping this level of helping the community during the 40 day period becomes a lifestyle for the volunteers as people need help with things all the time.”
Berwick resident Rob Koch has put his hand up to take part in the project, saying working in the community was a long-time passion of his.
“I’m looking forward to it. I’ve been a community worker for years,” he said.
“I enjoy being part of the community and trying to make a difference.”
Mr Koch has been a member of the church for 10 years.
Pastor Foster said there was an “excited and motivated” vibe at the church.
“We’ve had a great response to the initiative with the members wanting to lend a helping hand.”
Pastor Foster said the church was always looking for more volunteers.
