Kids show the write stuff

THE Doveton Library recently held a special awards night for winners of the annual Friends of the Doveton Library Young Writers Competition.
The winners and their families attended the special presentation with the winning short stories and poetry entries being read out.
President of the Friends of the Doveton Library, Barbara Hunter, then presented winners with their prizes and certificates.
The competition, open to eight to 15-year-olds, is an opportunity for young aspiring writers to showcase their talents.
Judges Maria Harding, Barbara Hunter and Jellie Wyckelsama had the difficult but enjoyable task of deciding the winners from a large amount of entries.
In the Junior Poetry section equal winners wereAdelaide Asquith, Chevaunne Keleher and Michelle Sosnowski.
In the Senior Poetry category Riannon Berkeley was first, Natalie Fienberg was second and Danielle Kutchel third.
Jesse Moyes, Samhitha Dayanand and Adelaide Asquith were equal first in the Junior Short Story section. Dilusha Jayasekara, Joselyn Martinez, Brianna Lobley and Bettina Jaffer received honourable mentions.
In the Senior Short Story competition Luke Phillips came first, Leah Sy second and Rebecca Torsello was third.
Honourable mentions were presented to Stacy Hamill and Claire Hatswell with a special honourable mention to Brodie Colbourne.
