OUTSTANDING women from all walks of life are set to be recognised as part of the 2006 Victorian Honour Roll of Women.
Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan has reminded Casey residents to nominate women for the annual roll before nominations close in October.
“Women already recognised on the Honour Roll have made outstanding contributions in a diverse range of fields from education, social justice and science to medicine, human rights, literature and arts, and sport and recreation.
“This is a great achievement and I hope to see more women from the area nominated for next year’s honour roll,” Mr Donnellan said.
Each year the names of up to 20 women are added to the Honour Roll on International Women’s Day on 8 March. To date, 332 women have been included.
Nominations are sought from a range of fields such as sport and recreation, social justice, education, science, medicine, business, journalism, community service, media, rural health, abortion law reform, as well as involvement in ethnic and indigenous communities.
Berwick resident Dawn Wilcock, a former CEO of Women’s Sport and Recreation Victoria, has also urged residents to nominate outstanding women.
“Many brilliant women are involved in sports administration across the state and locally and this is a great opportunity for people to put forward those who have contributed so that they can be recognised.
“It also gets people to stop and have a look back at their achievements,” she said.
Ms Wilcock, who now operates Triform Enterprises, a sports management business in Berwick, was presented with the Victorian Sport Leadership Award in June. She said she understood what it felt like to be recognised for her work. “It was nice to be recognised and that is why the Honour Roll is so important,” she said. Nominations for the Victorian Honour Roll of Women close on 15 October.
More information, nomination forms and sample completed nominations are available from the Office of Women’s Policy’s website at www.women.vic.gov.au
