History in the making

THE Berwick and Pakenham Historical Society is seeking volunteers to increase its computer database and catalogue its collection.
Volunteers will work from the beautifully restored council building that was built in 1912 and is now located on James Street, Pakenham.
The project includes computer data entry on items that have been catalogued in the past and also cataloguing the vast collection of photographs, furniture, clothing, documents, books and many other items including a unique walking cane collection.
Having the items included on a computer database gives greater community accessibility to the collection.
Volunteers will receive an Accredited Certificate in First Aid Level 1, training in occupational health and safety, a uniform and personal protective equipment and training in cataloguing.
They will need to be willing to attend two days per week for six months and to work in a team environment
Heritagecare project officer Paige McAlpine says the project will give volunteers a sense of achievement, new skills and knowledge about the area’s history and heritage.
For more information contact Ms McAlpine on 9326 8250 or email pmcalpine@cva.org.au.
