Health service rewarded

CASEY’S vital Family Development Services team was honoured as part of International Nurses Day recently.
The event was attended by maternal and child-health nurses and other staff working in the department.
Casey mayor Colin Butler presented awards, recognising the achievements of the maternal and child-health nurses, during the event.
“Casey’s nurses are an integral part of delivering Victoria’s largest maternal and child-health service,” Cr Butler said.
“Casey experiences the highest number of births of any council in Victoria. Last year close to 4000 babies were born in our municipality.
“It is through the commitment of our family development team that the City of Casey is able to provide an innovative range of services to families with children.
“I thank them for their outstanding work and their dedication to providing a high quality, accessible and family-friendly maternal and child-health service.”
Director and founder of the Australian Mentor Centre Gilly Johnson was a guest speaker and entertained the crowd by talking about the importance of mentoring in the nursing field.
Ms Johnson is developing a formal mentoring program for Casey’s maternal and child-health workforce.
The City of Casey is one of Australia’s fastest growing municipalities and is home to Victoria’s largest population of children aged four and under.
The maternal and child-health service assists families during the important early years of life and learning.
