Have a say on health service

RESIDENTS have a chance to make their views on the operation of their local health service count.
Southern Health’s community advisory committee is recruiting consumer, carer and community members, who can offer a local perspective to decisions made within the health service.
Southern Health operates several medical and health services in the local area including Casey Hospital, Dandenong Hospital, Cranbourne Integrated Care Centre and South East Alcohol and Drug Service.
Committee members can raise topics of concern and suggest changes and improvements.
Over the past five years, the committee has contributed to the development of policies, facility redevelopment, consumer information, and developing health services that meet the needs of their community.
The committee is made up of nine to 14 community members who are appointed for a term of two or three years, depending on the member’s preference, with a maximum term of six years. At least two members of the committee will be representatives from Southern Health’s Board of Directors.
Sally-Ann Nadj, who has been a member for more than 12 months, said she takes her role on the advisory committee very seriously.
“I have an opportunity to give a voice to those who are often voiceless,” she said. “The community advisory committee gives me access to the decision-makers within Southern Health and as those decisions will affect me as a consumer I feel a sense of contribution and empowerment.”
