SPRING may be coming to an end, but Doveton and Eumemmerring gardeners are crossing their green thumbs in the hope of winning a community garden competition.
Residents can now view the 20 gardens entered in the competition and vote for their favourite at the Doveton Neighbourhood Learning Centre.
Doveton Eumemmerring Neighbourhood Renewal Housing Action Group officials have organised the event in the hope of uncovering some of the best-kept garden gems in the area.
First prize is a $250 Bunnings voucher, second prize a $100 voucher and third prize a $50 voucher.
Avid gardeners Helen and Les Boyes hope to be among the prizes when the winners are announced next week.
The couple signed up for the competition several weeks ago and have been busy sprucing up their garden.
Mr Boyes has been a passionate gardener for decades, working as a gardener and in nurseries for much of his working life.
The 70-year-old’s legs are now riddled with arthritis and devoted wife Helen has taken over the gardening duties.
But Mr Boyes still maintains the lawns and greatly enjoys doing the edges.
The pair has lived in Doveton for 37 years and believes the gardening competition has been a great event for the local community.
Winners will be announced for the tidiest garden, best spring garden and most improved garden during an entertainment-packed day on Tuesday, 28 November from 6pm to 8pm at Doveton Neighbourhood Learning Centre, Oak Avenue, Doveton.
