Fundraising could be hair-raising

CASEYmayor Kevin Bradford is preparing for the colourful day when he will either dye or lose his locks for cancer.
Cr Bradford will either colour his hair in the shades of the City of Casey’s logo or completely shave his head on Tuesday, 16 May, depending on how much money he can raise for the cause.
“My hair will be bright orange, blue and green or possibly shaved before the council meeting, depending on how much money I can raise for the Leukaemia Foundation,” Cr Bradford said.
Leukaemia is the number-one childhood cancer in Australia but predominantly develops in young adults and older people in the community.
About 7300 people are diagnosed with leukaemias, lymphomas and myeloma each year. This is the equivalent of 20 people per day.
“Every dollar raised will go towards making a huge difference for a leukaemia sufferer or their family as they cope with the impact of treatment costs and, ultimately, the funds raised for medical research could lead to a cure,” Cr Bradford said.
“I’m setting the bar quite high by asking the community to raise $50,000 for me to shave my hair, but if we miss that target I’m prepared to don the Casey colours on my head, by colouring it in blue, green and bright orange,” Cr Bradford said.
Donations over $2 are tax-deductible and can be made at the council’s customer service centres in Centro Cranbourne, Amberley Shopping Centre in Narre Warren South or at the council offices, Magid Drive, Narre Warren.
Donations can also be made directly to the Leukaemia Foundation at www.worldsgreatestshave.com.
