Local resident Glen Tarrant is one of many cyclists and pedestrians who will benefit from Casey’s $1.8 million investment in recreation paths.THE City of Casey is trailblazing the way in recreational path development with more than $1.8 million allocated for various projects during 2007-08.
Casey mayor Colin Butler said the considerable investment follows from the establishment of the criterium cycling track at Casey Fields and the State Mountain Bike Centre at Lysterfield Park.
“As our city is one of the fastest-growing municipalities in Australia and has one of the largest percentages of people under the age of 40, council is committed to developing a large recreational path network for the whole community to enjoy,” Cr Butler said.
“This is great news for cyclists and pedestrians in Casey, as the new paths will facilitate travel to and from work or school while also providing a safe and reliable recreational network for families.”
The new path initiatives include:
• $400,000 for recreation paths;
• $155,000 for connecting footpaths (various locations);
• $1 million for linking paths program (various locations);
• $40,000 for paths in Anaconda Reserve (Narre Warren North);
• $62,000 for gravel paths along Churchill Park Drive (Endeavour Hills); and
• $217,000 for paths and a bridge in Frog Hollow Reserve (Narre Warren North).
The total council expenditure for new paths is just over $1.8 million with this figure set to increase if applications to Parks Victoria are successful.
