Warming up for the Games, the Casey physical activity day, was held recently at Lysterfield Lake Park.
Casey chief executive officer Mike Tyler said the event provided an excellent opportunity for families to get active together in the range of free sporting and recreation opportunities on offer.
“The event also gave visitors to Lysterfield Lake Park an opportunity to explore Casey’s new State Mountain Bike Track, which will host Commonwealth Games events.
“Casey residents, like people throughout Victoria, embraced the opportunity to soak in the excitement of the preparations for the Commonwealth Games,” he said.
Olympic high jump bronze medallist Tim Forsyth, of Bluearth Institute, conducted a host of popular activities and games for children.
More than 2000 visitors turned up to the Warming Up for the Games day.
They enjoyed bike riding and guided walks along the trails, sailing on the lake, demonstrations by local sporting groups; displays of tai chi, martial arts and dancing, sporting activities, face painting, mini-golf, rock climbing and abseiling and roving entertainers.
The Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games will be held in March.
