Fresh approach goes down well

HEALTHY eating is all the rage at local schools and this is no exception at Fountain Gate Primary School.
Students and staff recently held a successful fruit and vegetable day with an array of fresh produce on offer.
The youngsters discovered the benefits of balanced eating and were encouraged by the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
The highlight of the day was an appearance by Penny Pumpkin, Polly Pumpkin and Petunia Pumpkin who delivered the fruit and vegetable platters to each grade.
Teacher Margot Tregear said it was a true team effort in making the day a success.
“The beautiful platters were created by the combined efforts of the staff that came in early, turning about 10 boxes of fruit and vegetables into wonderful creations,” Ms Tregear said.
“The atmosphere and cooperation in the staff room was amazing.”
Ms Tregear said the fruit was supplied free of charge to the students with the aim of further encouraging a healthy eating lifestyle.
“The canteen is offering carrot and celery sticks along with a dip for morning recess or lunchtime.
“We hope that these efforts are helping students to select healthier snack options at school and at home,” she said.
