Free tickets to the Games

SCHOOL students are in the running to experience the thrill of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.
Safeway supermarkets will be giving more than 3000 kids the chance of a lifetime to visit the games through the Bringing Kids to the Games initiative.
The supermarket giant is giving free tickets to local schools and will pay for transport to and from the games venue.
Cranbourne Park Safeway is encouraging local principals to apply on behalf of the school and nominate a student who has made an outstanding contribution to the community. Store manager James Lawrence said this could be in the form of volunteering and charity work or academic and sporting achievements. “In the applications we want to hear about the positive contribution students have made to the local community in the past 12 months.
“Bringing Kids to the Games will help bring the community and the Commonwealth Games together. It will recognise and reward students who share a common value of ours, that of supporting the local community,” he said.
The tickets available vary from store to store and cover eight different sports and almost 50 events.
Schools should return their application form to Cranbourne Park Safeway by 16 December. The winning schools will be advised at the start of the 2006 school year.
