Fraudsters target ANZ bank

Fraudsters have been at it once again, using email and the internet to try and fool unsuspecting computer users into handing over their personal and bank account details.
Mass emails have been sent out to random email addresses across the world, with the intentions of hopefully reaching customers of the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ).
The email claims to have been sent from the ANZ bank, explaining that they have supposedly implemented a new security system to avoid fraud and protect customers’ account details.
The message says customers are required to confirm their customer registration number and password to update their account details for the new system.
At the end of the email is a link to an imposter ANZ website, mimicking the exact look and feel of the genuine ANZ website, disguising the fraudsters’ intention of stealing and misusing the information provided.
The information is forwarded to the fraudster, potentially allowing your account to be emptied, or used however the fraudster wishes.
Online frauds such as this are not uncommon, and you should be cautious about entering your personal and bank details.
To avoid becoming a victim, details such as these should remain private unless absolutely necessary.
ANZ has stated that users of their online banking service, and any other online banking services, should only ever enter their personal details into sites for which they have manually entered the URL rather than following links or shortcuts from emails. Doing so ensures that you are, in fact, visiting the correct site and not a lookalike fraud.
ANZ has also posted a warning on its website that goes into detail about the dangers of such fraud.
