CASEY firefighters are continuing to help their under-siege colleagues battle fire fronts in Gippsland.
The latest deployment involved crews from Narre Warren North, Berwick and Pearcedale Fire Brigades heading to the Toongabbie area last weekend to help fight the fires.
Narre Warren Fire Brigade member Paul Hardy acted as a deputy strike team leader and helped coordinate the firefighting effort with strike team leader Phil Craig.
Mr Hardy said the team managed to save 10 houses and some farm sheds from the flames. But six properties were destroyed in the blaze.
More local firefighters were expected to make the trip to Gippsland again this week with extreme fire conditions expected.
