Head of the Cat Protection Society of Victoria Doctor Carole Webb, guest judge Cheryle U’Ren and Casey mayor Colin Butler at the Charity Cat Show in Berwick.CATS of the blue and white variety moved off centre stage last week as Berwick showcased felines of a different kind.
Hundreds of cats along with their owners and interested onlookers were at the annual 2007 Feline Health Research Fund Charity Cat Show.
Show manager Steven Gates said more than 200 pedigree and non-pedigree cats and kittens were on display throughout the day.
He said each year members of the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy of Victoria present a show with the purpose of raising much needed funds and at the same time increasing awareness of the little known charity.
Berwick Leisure Centre provided an ideal venue for the 2007 event that raised more than $3500, he said.
“This year there were four Supreme in Show awards; one for each group. Local artist Elly Abrat produced and donated four magnificent works of art depicting cats and a kitten representative of each of the groups,” Mr Gates said.
“With loving care Michael Nichols expertly framed the feline portraits gifting his wondrous work in complement with the artist.”
Head of the Cat Protection Society of Victoria Doctor Carole Webb presented seminars throughout the day, and along with her son Peter, offered her time as the official show veterinarian.
Mr Gates said an array of feline breeds were at the show including Balinese, Siamese, Abyssinian and Persian.
“The show raised a good deal of much needed financial support for the Feline Health Research Fund thanks to the generous cat loving people of Victoria.”
Mr Gates was also full of praise for Casey Council, the mayor Colin Butler as well as the judges, show workers and businesses that offered their support.
