WHEN Edith Dundon of Hallam turned 90 years old recently it was a real family affair.
But this was no surprise considering five generations of women turned out to celebrate.
Ms Dundon has four children of her own, 12 grandchildren, 20 great grand children and two great great grandchildren spanning five generations.
More than 50 people turned out to celebrate her milestone at the Mulgrave Country Club and granddaughter Sandi Wear said Ms Dundon had always been a central part of their family.
“She’s a real darling and has always been a family person and very family focused.
“She is so trendy and you can tell her anything. She is just such a honey and the kids love going over there to see her,” she said.
Ms Dundon’s husband James died in 1986 just one year after they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
Following her husband’s death Ms Dundon moved to Hallam to live with her daughter Gwen Patmore.
Ms Wear’s family then moved next door eight years ago and she said they had always been a very close knit family.
“Since we moved next door we have never had a blue. We set some ground rules and we have stuck to them and it has been fine.
“We see her (Ms Dundon) every day and the kids love going over there and she reads to them. She is just such a honey and everyone loves her,” she said.
Ms Wear said the birthday celebration had been enjoyed by all and the family was always amazed by the stories Ms Dundon had to tell.
“You can just talk to her about anything and she is just so with it. But then she can go back and tell you about the times when there were horses and carriages in Flinders Street.”
