Duo lives the dream

TWO Berwick sportswomen will realise every footballer’s dream this Saturday when they run on to a packed MCG and take part in the Victorian Women’s Football League (VWFL) Country versus Metro clash.
Cherie Charles and Amy Decker will line up for the Metro team in the annual Mother’s Day match that will be played as a curtain raiser for the Collingwood-Carlton blockbuster.
The Berwick Women’s Football team players made the cut after taking part in two gruelling try-out sessions involving the best footballers from all divisions of the VWFL.
With their home club without a win so far this season, the women will be hoping for success on Sunday.
“We have moved up to Premier division this year and we have lost all three matches so far,” Charles said.
Charles, who played on the MCG in the same match last year, said it was a massive thrill to run out on to the hallowed turf.
“The grandstands around you are awesome. When I went out there last year the most exciting part was running from the race – just knowing all the greats that have run out there before you,” she said.
Charles, wife of Berwick player and women’s coach Daniel Charles, said her husband provided wonderful support in her football ambitions.
“He’s great. He knows what he is talking about and he has been really good for all the girls who play for Berwick,” she said.
