‘Drag’ cars impounded

POLICE impounded the cars of two local motorists caught travelling at 160km/h in a 70km/h zone at Clayton on Saturday night.
A Eummemerring man, 21, and a Narre Warren man, 19, were detected drag racing on Dandenong Road at about 11pm.
A third man was involved in the incident.
All three vehicles were impounded until Tuesday 25 March: a Ford XR6, driven by the Eumemmerring resident, a VT Commodore driven by the Narre Warren teenager and a Ford station wagon driven by the third man, a 28-year-old Clayton resident.
Following a roadside interview, three men have been summonsed to appear at the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
Acting Sergeant James Robbins of Stonnington Traffic Management Unit said it was disappointing the Easter road safety message was not getting through to some motorists.
“It’s lucky these guys didn’t end up a statistic, particularly on this Easter long weekend,” he said.
“Motorists who disobey the speed limit are not only putting their own lives at risk, but also the lives of their passengers and other road users,” he said.
