Doves win tough tussle

DOVETON seniors got back on the winner’s list on Saturday with a 14-point victory against a tough and gallant ROC.
The Doves got off to a good start, showing signs of what they can do when their running game gets going and taking a three-goal lead into quarter time.
In the second quarter the Doves took their foot off the pedal allowing ROC to kick six goals to three and take a slender lead into the main break.
The Doves showed real determination in the second half, edging ahead of their opponents and winning the contested ball.
Ryan Brown found his form of last year, taking several pack marks and proving too strong up forward, finishing with three goals along with small forward Rohan Scott.
Justin Hill continued to push forward from the midfield and once again was among the Doves’ goalkickers, also finishing with three goals.
In difficult conditions David George used his supreme skills around the ground and proved to be the difference in the Doves’ gutsy win. Scores: Doveton 18.14.122 d ROC 16.12.108.

Doveton once again got off to a fast start that left its opposition stunned.
The Doves didn’t allow ROC an inch, outscoring it in each quarter.
The Doves took a nine-goal lead into the last break and continued to run and finished the game strongly with six goals to one and defeating ROC by 90 points.
Pete Dye was again the star, kicking a career best seven goals and proving too good in the air for his opponent.
Other goal kickers were Trent McIver, Glen Hamilton and Jarrod Christopher who all ended up with two goals.
Steven Wulf also played an excellent game up forward giving the Doves a tall mobile target at centre half-forward and always giving a tough contest.

The young Doves recorded their biggest win of the year against ROC with a percentage boosting 197-point victory.
The Doves conceded only one point for the game and kicked bags of eight and nine goals in the first and last quarters.
Simon Black led hard all game off the half-forward line and took several marks and set up just as many goals.
He got good supply from on-ballers Ryan Pearson and Aaron Alexander who both ran hard offensively and defensively for the Doves.
Up forward, Daniel Zajac had another day out kicking six goals, Nick Paynter kicked five as a small forward and Daniel Bianco finished with four.
