MORE than 500 people flocked to Oatlands Primary School in Narre Warren on Saturday to help celebrate the school’s 10th birthday.
Past and present students and families reflected on the school’s growth and achievements.
Principal Stuart Daly has been at the school since it opened its doors in 1995 and said he had watched Oatlands undergo many changes.
“When we started we had 240 students and now we have 750,” Mr Daly said.
“Our buildings have changed, the community has changed and grown larger and our curriculum has developed.
“We just have fantastic kids and a fantastic school community,” he said.
The school’s 120voice choir performed as part of the celebrations and there was a display from renowned florist Euan McKenzie with performances from the Grade six dance group.
Art craft teachers Dianne Cappadona and Helen Connell and students also produced seven canvases depicting the life and times of the school, part of their biannual art show.
School council president Craig Rooney and Oatlands’ first enrolled student Hayley Anderson also spoke about their fond memories of the school.
Mr Daly said the celebrations had been very successful and had continued on Monday when students and teachers enjoyed a birthday cake at a special assembly.
“It was a super duper day and it was a good time to reminisce and look at the past and see what the school has achieved.
“It was just terrific and the art show was the main drawcard.
“It all went really well and everyone is delighted,” he said.
