LYNBROOK Cricket Club players were bowled over by the excitement surrounding their first official matches, played on the weekend.
The club fielded sides in senior and reserve grades against Narre Warren and Fountain Gate in the Dandenong and District Cricket Association, with both teams making promising starts.
The senior side bowled Narre Warren out for 142 and were 1/35 in reply at stumps.
The Lynbrook reserve team played away at Fountain Gate and was bowled out for 48 in blustery conditions. In reply, Fountain Gate was 6/67 at stumps.
Lynbrook Sports and Social Club president and reserves player Steve McPhail said he was “extremely pleased” with the efforts of both teams and was looking forward to a successful season.
“The club was established to foster sporting and social activities in the area because there was absolutely nothing in existence,” he said.
“Cricket was one of the first sports |the community indicated to us that |they wanted, so council installed a pitch and nets at the oval for us.”
Mr McPhail said the club had welcomed players from all walks of life and levels of ability, including four men who had never played cricket before.
“It was fantastic to have both sides playing and the results were very encouraging,” he said.
“We were really rapt with how we were received by both opposition teams, who commented that they were happy to be playing the newest side in the competition.
“We are really positive about the future of developing sport in Lynbrook.”
