HILLSMEADE Primary School students played their part in cricket history last week.
The Narre Warren South school batted, bowled and fielded to help set a record for the number of people playing cricket on one day.
More than 144,000 other people throughout Australia joined the local students in CricKids Australia’s Biggest Cricket Game and at the same time celebrated cultural diversity.
Teachers and parents also joined in on the fun and took to ovals, playgrounds and sporting fields to reinforce the Living in Harmony message.
The message is all part of the Australian Government’s Harmony Day celebrations, which are designed to bring people together, promote Australian values and to celebrate the Australian way of life.
Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland said cricket was a powerful way to spread the Australian values of unity, inclusion, diversity, teamwork and respect.
“The CricKids Australia’s Biggest Cricket Game is about providing the opportunity for all Australians to join in a sport that is part of Australia’s history and culture,” he said.
