Cranny ladies take the honours

CRANBOURNE Bowls Club teams were successful in six of their eight matches in this week’s metro bowls competition, but it was the ladies number-one side that took the honours with a splendid win over Berwick by 17 shots.
Cranbourne was at home to Berwick and took the initiative on two rinks to control the match throughout.
The stars were the teams of Shirley Venville and Vhronda Bonney who won by 17 shots and 13 shots respectively to carry the day.
Scores: Cranbourne 92 d Berwick 75. S. Venville 30-13, V. Bonney 28-15, L. Hine 15-24, T. Lennon 19-23.
Cranbourne (2) was not up to the task against Cranbourne RSL and fell 23 shots short. Cranbourne won on two rinks, but was outbowled on the other two rinks by the RSL ladies.

Cranbourne (3) kept its finals hopes alive with a four-shot win over Cranbourne RSL at home. Skip Kath Tower’s team ensured victory with a seven-shot win on its rink.

MEN’S PENNANT
Cranbourne journeyed to Mooroolbark to battle the locals in an important match, but fell short by 21 shots overall.
The Cranbourne bowlers had difficulty coming to terms with the synthetic green and could only win one rink, that of skip Alan Mickle, who bowled superbly for a 16-shot win.
Scores: Cranbourne 87 lost to Mooroolbark 108. A. Mickle 30-14, L. Quigg 23-28, R. Lyfield 22-29, B. Gay 12-37.
Cranbourne (2) continued its winning form at home when it accounted for Mulgrave Country Club by 41 shots overall.
Cranbourne won three rinks well, with the rink of skip Glen Imeson the stars with a margin of 29 shots, winning the club award for the week. This rink is developing well with teenagers Jamie Imeson and Stuart Huddle under the guidance of experienced and talented skip Imeson.
Scores: Cranbourne 116 d Mulgrave Country Club 75.
Cranbourne (3) did its finals chances no harm with a 27-shot win over a competitive Burden Park side. Cranbourne won all four rinks for maximum points in a very consistent display. This side leads its section after the start of the second round with nine wins from 10 games.
Scores: Cranbourne 104 d Burden Park 77. M. Eams 28-24, T. Bonney 25-15, R. St.Ruth 26-21, K. McLeod 25-17.
Cranbourne (4) was back in the winning ranks with a 30-shot win over Noble Park at Noble Park. Cranbourne won well on three of the four rinks and remains in second position on the ladder.

Cranbourne (5) had the bye.
Cranbourne (6) accounted for Glen Waverley when it won a close match by six shots overall at Glen Waverley.
The side continues its rise up the ladder after a poor start to the season. Cranbourne won only one rink, but the rink skipped by Jim McGeagh played brilliantly to win by 11 shots.
OTHER RESULTS
The club held a successful triples’ tournament on Sunday, 20 November with full greens and 42 teams competing, over three matches, for the attractive prizemoney sponsored by Trios Tabaret.
Result: Winners J. Lawton and team (Brighton) 38 points, runners-up W. Stevens and team (Cranbourne) 34 points.
Best first-game winner: M. Balls (Moe); best second game winner: R. Nathan (Cowes); best third game winner: R. Ralph (Ferntree Gully).
