CRANBOURNE bowlers at Yarra Glen lost their way on the synthetic greens and were unable to match the talented locals. Cranbourne lost all four rinks to the Glen, which was clear section leader in Division 1 Metro Pennant bowls.

Cranbourne (2) was smiling after an excellent victory over top side Edithvale by 24 shots. The side won three rinks and dropped the fourth by five shots. Big winners were the rinks of Stan Burnett and Wal Ballard.

Cranbourne (3) was under pressure against second side Noble Park but won by five shots overall. The side lost three rinks in tight matches but the rink of Dick St Ruth ensured victory with a 22-shot win. The side was now the clear section leader.

Cranbourne (4) visited Berwick which is a tough ask to win the points and this match was no exception. Cranbourne struggled early and were down by 18 shots overall nearing the tea break. After the break all teams lifted to win overall in an exciting finish by six shots. The rink of Allan Dennis were the only winners with a margin of 15 shots and Ian Badger’s rink came back well to tie.

Cranbourne (5) was too strong for Heathmont and recorded a 26-shot win, taking two rinks and drawing a third. Skip Keith Davies had another big win with his team by 22 shots to take the club award for the second week in succession.

Cranbourne (6) visited Noble Park and, although winning two rinks, was beaten overall by 27 shots.

LADIES PENNANT
Cranbourne (1) had an 18-shot overall win over Dandenong Club at home. Cranbourne won two rinks with big wins by Shirley Venville and Thelma Lennon.

Cranbourne (2) played a close match against Edithvale, little separating scores all day. After an exciting finish at 100 ends, scores were tied. Both clubs had two winning rinks, Kath Dudink being the big winner by 10 shots.

The club championship for men began with two rounds played on Sunday and after some interesting results the final 16 winners will compete for the quarter-finals.
