Cranbourne down to home side

CRANBOURNE Bowling Club showed plenty of fight on the Blackburn green, but the home side’s strong finish saw it win by six shots in Division One Pennant bowls.
Cranbourne won well on Ray Travica’s rink with a 10-shot margin, but narrowly lost the other three rinks.
The side is well positioned in the top four and will need at least two more wins to remain there.
Blackburn 94 d Cranbourne 88. L. Quigg 22-29; B. Gay 19-21; R. Travica 32-22; P. Elgar 15-22.
Cranbourne (2) hit top form to dispatch fourth-ranked Boronia by 34 shots.
Cranbourne won all four rinks in a consistent performance, with the rinks of Alan Mickle and Neil Fell showing out with margins of 11 and 13 shots respectively.
The team is strongly challenging for a top place in the four.
Cranbourne 104 d Boronia 70. G. Imeson 24-15; N. Fell 28-15; J. Pentreath 22-21; A. Mickle 30-19.
Cranbourne (3) went down to Cranbourne RSL by 12 shots on its home green.
Cranbourne’s two winning rinks were Stan Burnett and Mike Noa by 11 and eight shots respectively.
Cranbourne RSL 101 d Cranbourne 89. S. Burnett 27-16; W. Ballard 18-34; M. Noa 29-21; G. Rushton 15-30.
Cranbourne (4) started well against Pakenham, but ultimately succumbed by 22 shots.
Matt Boltong’s team won Cranbourne’s only rink, with a 16-shot victory.
Pakenham 110 d Cranbourne 88. M. Boltong 34-18; R. Roscoe 19-35; A. Dennis 12-33; S. Raiti 23-24.
Cranbourne (5) clean swept all its rinks to thrash Heathmont by 66 shots.
All rinks had big margins, with Len Patterson’s team winning the weekly trophy with a 23-shot margin.
The side appears to be a certain finalist and could even top the ladder.
Cranbourne 132 d Heathmont 64. M. Eames 24-19; J. MacInnes 37-16; L. Patterson 39-16; A. Cook 32-13.
Cranbourne (6) travelled to Highett and handed the home team an 18-shot defeat.
Cranbourne won two rinks in fine fashion to set up the win.
Gerry Winters and Rob Sorensen were the stars, with margins of 16 and eight shots respectively.
Cranbourne 94 d Highett 76. L. Magri 18-20; G. Winters 29-13; T. Van Schalm 18-22; R. Sorensen 29-21.
Cranbourne won a gripping ladies’ Saturday pennant match against Glen Waverley by one shot.
Mary Anne Allen’s rink was the big winner with a margin of 15 shots in an excellent display.
The ladies play their final match of the season at Dandenong RSL next week.
Cranbourne 46 d Glen Waverley 45. M.A. Allen 31-16; P. Boltong 15-29.
Ladies’ Pennant was cancelled on Tuesday 20 January due to the excessive heat.
