A LEISURELY afternoon bush walk turned into a disaster for an elderly couple when they returned to find their vehicle had been set on fire.
The grey Landrover Discovery fourwheel drive was left in a car park on Churchill Park Drive in Lysterfield South, while the couple went for a walk.
Endeavour Hills Police were called out to the car park at 1.30pm on Sunday 24 July to find the $37,600, 2001 model vehicle gutted by the fire.
Senior Constable Stephen Wanstall called on members of the public who may have seen the fire to come forward with information.
“Obviously police are very concerned about people setting fire to cars in a bushland area,” Sen Const Wanstall said.
“It could have easily spread and caused further damage and possibly injured other people. Luckily no one was injured and nothing else was destroyed.”
The Endeavour Hills Police station can be contacted on 9709 7666.
