Councillor to face court

FORMER Casey councillor Roland Abraham will front court in April to answer allegations that he doctored an email presented to the council last year.
Mr Abraham was listed to appear in the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court last Friday but instead his case was adjourned until Thursday, 20 April for a contest mention.
Last month, and as reported in the News, the former Four Oaks Ward councillor was charged by the Narre Warren Criminal Investigation Unit with attempt to obtain financial advantage by deception, and making and using false documents.
In August last year Mr Abraham found himself at the centre of a police investigation after a contingent of his fellow councillors took their concerns to the police.
The councillors requested that detectives from the Criminal Investigations Unit review the circumstances surrounding an email Cr Abraham presented to council in support of his request to have a university course funded by the council.
The email sent from Ballarat University supported a claim for reimbursement of costs for a $3600 university course.
This is the second time that Mr Abraham’s council activities have come under the spotlight.
Earlier in 2005 Mr Abraham was found not guilty of providing false and misleading information to the Victorian Electoral Commission about where he lived during the 2003 council elections.
