Council ‘lacks team spirit’

By Cam Scott
CASEY Council is a fractured unit and the community is suffering as a result.
That’s the opinion of Four Oaks Ward councillor Roland Abraham, who, in the wake of learning that some of his peers on council requested a police investigation into his council dealings, has slammed what he calls a divided council.
Cr Abraham has accused some of his peers of playing political games and victimising him and other Laboraligned councillors.
“Are we a team at council? The answer is absolutely not,” Cr Abraham said.
“This again comes down to what I stated in the beginning.
“This has been a game that’s been played and obviously there are people who like to play these picky games, and that’s fine, it’s their democratic right to go to the police.
“This is what I call the lowest of the low.
“People have this belief there’s no politics in local council that’s not true. I can assure you now if this hasn’t caused a division, I’m a monkey’s uncle.”
Cr Abraham also spoke out against what he sees as a general lack of basic respect between certain councillors and council officers, saying the end result was a lack of focus on the needs of the residents.
“At the end of the day whether disappointed with other councillors for taking this action or not, I’m overall disappointed that council is not a team,” he said.
