THE World Cup might be over, but a surge in soccer’s popularity has placed some of Casey’s sports clubs under pressure.
That was the view of Casey’s deputy mayor at Tuesday night’s council meeting when he called for a council report to be carried out to see how local sports clubs were coping with an increase in demand.
Cr Rob Wilson moved that council officers conduct a report on how council plans to cope with an upsurge in interest in soccer following the World Cup.
The report would especially look at minor improvements or extensions to the playing surface facilities across Casey.
It will also discuss any planned joint use facilities at Gleneagles campus of Eum-emmerring Secondary College with soccer, and how they could link in with the soccer facilities at Reema Reserve, Endeavour Hills.
Cr Wilson said he had visited a number of local sports facilities that were trying to accomodate the increase in demand.
The report will be presented to council within the next two months.
Coping with surge in soccer is council’s goal
