HISTORY buffs have been invited to take a trip down memory lane and be transported back 150 years.
On Tuesday, the Casey-Cardinia Library Corporation officially opened “Transported Back: 150 years of Victorian Railways” at the Narre Warren Library.
The stunning collection of images makes up the travelling exhibition by Public Records Office Victoria and date back to the 1850s.
The rich photographic records capture the social history of Victorian life through the public transport system.
From rolling stock, brass bands, fashion and advertising, to historical occasions, maps, drawings and documents; the exhibition vividly illustrates the progressive development of colony and state.
The display is open during library hours, entry is free and the exhibition runs until 30 September.
Casey councillor and chairperson Casey-Cardinia Library Corporation Wayne Smith said it was a pleasure for the organisation to host such an event.
He urged local residents to go and take a look at the exhibit.
“Whether you are a railway enthusiast or not I am sure there is something there for everyone,” Cr Smith said.
