Cold Christmas at Cranbourne

CRANBOURNE Harness Racing Club’s annual Christmas in July feature meeting was a successful event, despite cold and damp conditions on Saturday night.
Persistent rain in the lead-up to the meeting meant guests booked to party in on-course marquees were re-routed to inside areas after the tents were unable to be erected on the wet grass.
However that did not dampen the fun, and all who had booked enjoyed the action of a nine-race card of harness racing.
Popular Pearcedale trainer Bill Walker’s win in the seventh race with his honest pacer Doolan Jack highlighted the night’s racing.
The $6.20 chance downed second favourite Touch My Toes by almost two metres in a top-notch performance, driven superbly by Walker’s daughter Simone.
The other big performance of the night came early in the program when super talented two-year-old prospect Best of Times took out the first race by four metres, untouched.
The Allan McDonough-trained gelding remains unbeaten and will now progress to metropolitan company.
Three other favourites saluted on the night but none were locally prepared.
