City creates framework for safety

CASEY Council has created a framework for road and community safety in the municipality for the next four years.
Casey mayor Colin Butler said the Community Safety Strategy 2006-2011 and Road Safety Strategy 2006-2011 aimed to deliver a safe, secure and healthy community.
“Education, environment and enforcement are the three key levels of response identified in the strategy,” Cr Butler said.
“The overall aim is to empower the community to take ownership of safety issues and become involved in solving them.”
He said the Community Safety Strategy aimed to reduce the perceived and actual incidence of crime and injury in Casey.
Surveys, meetings, events and information would give people the skills, knowledge and support to participate in local safety initiatives to create a more secure environment.
The Road Safety Strategy plans to improve road safety, mobility and accessibility.
“Our aim is to reduce death and serious injury through measures that promote safer roads, safer people, safer vehicles and safer speeds,” Cr Butler said.
For more information on the strategies contact the Community Safety Department on 9705 5200 or visit www.casey.vic.gov.au/communitysafety.
