MANDARIN is more than just a fruit for Eumemmerring Primary School students, after they hosted a cultural exchange of students from China last week.
Students and staff at the school welcomed 11 students and one teacher from the Jiangsu province into their school and their homes and took them on a week long tour of Victoria.
After a welcoming ceremony on Tuesday, regular school activities were mixed with travel to the city, a tour of the rialto and lunch on Southbank.
Other highlights of the week included trips to Healesville Sanctuary, while host families kept the good times rolling with outings to Puffing Billy, Luna Park and Phillip Island.
Eumemmerring Primary School principal Wayne MacDonald said the experience was great for both sets of students, and Sunday was an emotional day when the host families had to part ways with their new friends.
“It was a fantastic cultural exchange and it really benefited all of our kids,” he said.
“It’s certainly a program we want to pursue and we’d love to have the opportunity to go to China and have a twoway exchange.”
