COMMUNITY volunteers of the Mornington Peninsula Astronomical Society will conduct public night sky telescope viewing evenings at 8pm on Friday, 5 May and 2 June.
It will be a chance to view the moon with its craters, the ringed planet Saturn, the giant Jupiter and the red planet Mars.
These evenings will feature a multimedia slide show, interactive talk, hands-on meteorites and followed by viewing of the heavens with powerful telescopes.
Venue is The Briars Historic Park visitors centre, Nepean Highway, Mt Martha. Melways map reference 145, F12.
Prices are $8 for adults and $4 for children or $20 for a family of any size.

Visit a pet hospital
SOUTH Eastern Animal Emergency Centre in Hallam has invited the public to see what goes on in a working animal hospital to celebrate World Veterinary Day on Saturday, 29 April.
Staff at the centre is planning a host of activities that are ideal for an entertaining and informative family day-out.
From 11am to 4pm children are invited to bring in photographs of their pets as entries for a ‘cutest pet’ and ‘most unusual pet’ competition. Visitors will be offered tours of the hospital and there will be a number of interesting displays, as well as showbags and balloons.
The South Eastern Animal Emergency Centre is at18/151-159 Princes Highway, Hallam at the corner of Wedgewood Road.
Bands tune up
THE Casey Concert Band Festival will showcase local community and high school concert bands on Saturday, 27 May.
There will be something for every musical taste at the festival, to be held at the Cranbourne Community Theatre in Brunt St, Cranbourne. With more than 200 performers involved, the festival is a highlight of the 2006 City of Casey Performing Arts Calendar.
The afternoon session starts at 3pm and the evening session will follow at 8pm.
Tickets are $12 adult and $8 concession.
