Bounding with energy for historic ride

HORSE riders and the Casey community have been invited to come out and get into the spirit of the 18th Annual Riding of the Bounds this Sunday.
Starting at 9am, the ride will be held at Berwick’s Akoonah Park.
Casey mayor Kevin Bradford said he was looking forward to participating in the historic occasion.
“Last year over 200 people joined in by either riding on horseback or in horse-drawn vehicles to inspect and secure the boundary between Casey and Cardinia.
“This annual event has been proudly held for over 550 years in Casey’s sister city, Berwick-Upon-Tweed in England, and locally we have been running a similar event since 1988.”
Cr Bradford said the Australian version was unique, as it was not a competition ride.
“Riding of the Bounds is open to riders from all backgrounds and is a fantastic day that features a refreshment stop, entertainment, and awards ceremony,” he said.
People can register from 9am and receive their riding information.
The ride starts at 10am and will take approximately two and a half to three hours.
A barbecue lunch will be held after the ride for all participants, and prizes are awarded in the following categories:
•Champion Rider — Hotspur Trophy
•Mayor’s Choice — King Robert Bruce Trophy
•Best Presented Group — Kay Irvine Trophy
•Best Horse Drawn Vehicle — Grace Darling Trophy
•Most Australian Rider — Ned Kelly Trophy
•Best Western Turnout — Sir William Wallace Trophy
Akoonah Park is located in Cardinia Street, Berwick.
Entrance fees are $10 for individuals, $25 for a family of four and $60 for a group of ten.
